The Quagmire of Woo

Are we capable of saving ourselves from ourselves?

The much delayed start, uncertain where to begin. Where do we begin? Perhaps by laying a foundation upon which the title was chosen. What is quagmire? Here is a definition by the Merriam-Webster dictionary: "a difficult, precarious, or entrapping position". What is Woo? A dictionary definition: "to seek, to gain, or bring about".

Thus my choice for a title. Quagmire, being the emotional state of complete and utter futility and hopelessness, angst, a sense of having no options. Defined by angst, a feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one about the human condition or the state of the world.

Woo being the individual's desire to seek serenity, comfort and a sense of belonging. A sense of harmony with knowledge and experience, self-confidence, and self-esteem at a desired level of achievement.

It would appear to be the nature of our species, that social groups maintain solidarity and cohesion through conformity. Perhaps in most cases, simply by emotional cohesion, unspoken and unwritten common views.

Within segments of our species, there appear social groups where logic, reason and wonder are driving forces. Perhaps a solidarity of a commonly inquisitive nature. How does that work? Why? Perhaps it could be said that emotion takes a backseat, preceded by investigation, knowledge, and understanding. The application of logic and reason. The position that, "beyond a reasonable doubt", is the precedent. Can you prove it? What are the facts? How do you know that? An underlying, unspoken rule that changes required when new knowledge and understanding have been achieved. When we know better, we must do better.
